Top Restaurant Goals to Succeed in 2019

2019 is just about here. It’s been a busy and fast-paced year. If you haven’t started making plans and goals for next year, now is the time. It’s important to take the time to think about your goals and plans for next year.

What is your 2019 going to look like? For a busy restaurant, there are so many things that need to come together to create success and profit. Without proper planning, there can be many issues. You and your customers will be the ones to suffer. Part of planning for next year is looking at the numbers for last year. Those numbers will give you an idea of how to create numbers goals. Look at your current software programs, are they working the best for you and your team, helping you be efficient in the kitchen, with the staff and customers?

Have higher check averages. Help increase customer spends will create a larger profit.

  • Ongoing staff training on upsale. Empower your employees. Teach them how to sell without upsetting the customer or being too pushy.
  • Bring in more customers. Attract more customers sounds easy, let’s make it easy for you. Reevaluate your customer service, what are the customers saying about your restaurant, what does your online reputation say and how can you make improvements.
  • Implement a loyalty program and/or delivery services. There are a lot of options that will be easy to implement. We can help with that!! 

Ongoing training, hiring, and kitchen staff. What is your company culture? Restaurants have notoriously high turnover rates. Make sure on-going training for staff and on-boarding training for newbies are easy, fun and effective.

  • Most POS systems offer online training. Utilize it. Reward senior staff for staying and for training the newbies.
  • Recognize staff when you see them doing well or the customer remarks.
  • Monthly or weekly staff meetings will help you and them keep informed and communication open.

Improve your marketing. There should be a marketing plan, email, social and print. Used effectively should create new relationships and cultivate existing relationships with customers.  

  • Make it personal. Guests want to know you appreciate and listen to them.
  • If you are going to keep marketing in-house, make sure to have a solid marketing plan with holidays and campaigns marked. You should be preparing 90 days in advance.
  • Text and email campaigns are extremely important. If you haven’t started using them, make a plan to.

Take care of YOU.  That’s right, you are busy and being a restauranteur is challenging. Your team and customers will respect and appreciate a leader that takes care of themselves.

  • Make personal goals: Plan to take intentional personal time. Reward yourself.
  • Hit the gym, take some downtime and read a book.
  • Do something that brings you joy and recharges your soul.
